Well now, one of my silent resolutions this year was not to enter card making challenges...I much prefer to make cards that are very personal to the individual for whom they are intended. If I make a card for a challenge, whatever the challenge prompt may be, the focus of the card becomes that prompt, be it colour, image or inspiration board, rather than the particular personal traits of the individual, (for me anyway...). I end up with so many cards that simply remain in my boxes because when I rummage through to find a card to post off, I cannot ever find one that exactly fits the bill for that individual occasion and person. I then set to and make another...silly I know. When I thought it through just recently I decided that I would cease to enter cards in challenges and settle down to just make them for myself as and when inspired to do so...we will see how this pans out.
However...(you knew there would be a "but", didn't you?), I was whiffling rather enviously through the PTI blog entries for their February release (their ninth year celebration month, ends tomorrow), when I saw this competition...I simply cannot purchase as I did while I was working, when something catches my eye, but I still subscribe to their blog as I love the quality of their products, especially their papers and some of their stamps and dies. They always have competitions during their monthly releases, which I now rarely ever enter, and I certainly have never won anything, but this time one of the comps. for this month was to make a card using nine 1.5 inch squares, and utilising different techniques on each...so I decided to have a try...I needed something to fill a quiet weekend...here is the card I made...
I adhered these onto a mat of Neenah paper cut at 5.25 inches, and adhered that to a 5.5 inch woodgrain card base. I think it would make a good anniversary or engagement card...
The challenge for this card was finding dies and stamps small enough for the purpose and keeping everything cohesive. For that reason I kept the colour palette limited to blue, silver along with the specified white. I guess I just don't have enough choice when it comes to smaller PTI dies but the little heart from Heart to Heart 3 fitted the bill nicely. Anyway, I adhered to my mission of just using what I have and liking it, and I am quite satisfied with the outcome....although if I had decided earlier to enter I think I may have spent a little more time on getting the techniques and colours a little more coordinated...
BTW, I also entered another competition on the same blog which was to guess the numbers of buttons in a jar...but I am always totally hopeless at that sort of thing...so we won't go holding our breathe, will we?
Bye for now,
Di
