The third (a cloth covered album), is waiting on a purchase of some dark blue 12 x 12 card stock for the pages which must come from the mainland, so it will be a while yet in the finishing, although I have completed the cover and inserted the binding.
The first journal is another re-purposed dishwasher tablet box. I love this size. It looks good, for once I am quite pleased with the end result...making a few is the best way to learn I guess. This one measures 14 cm by 17.5, with a 7 cm spine.
I used a Jenofevedesigns idea for the cover, first covering the cardboard with brown paper and PVA glue, then paint with acrylic paints and matte medium, a layer of TH tissue wrap while still wet then seal with matte medium. It feels very robust, but flexible.
A couple of doileys are inserted in the journal, but I really need to find a better supply. The ones I had purchased from Spotlight were such poor quality paper I could not dye them as they simply turned to pulp the moment they touched the tea in the dye bath. I added a couple of dry ones into the stack of wet paper and a couple survived. They did manage to leave a ghostly little negative on the papers they were between, but not as much as I would have liked.
The second journal is a little larger, at 22 cm by 14.5 with a 5.5 cm spine.
It has only four signatures but these are made up from cardstock and papers I had in my scrap bins...it needed using up! Therefore the signatures are much thicker than the tea dyed copy paper I used in the blue jounal
I used the same closure idea and also the leftover blue dyed seam binding.
As yet I haven't embellished this one at all. I like to let them sit for a bit and grow into their characters before adding any of the permanent bits and pieces when I can, although I have been looking at some oldish You Tube videos regarding pockets etc. to add to a journal by Papercrafter45. Some of them are very cunning indeed...
Better trot, too many photographs again...reminds me of an aged relative and a boring slide night ;)
Oh, BTW. The appliance arrived! Thank you FlyBuys! It has been a while coming but the Kitchenaide stand mixer has landed. The beaten up old Kenwood is a trifle out of sorts, but we popped it straight into the empty carton and placed it in the store room, we didn't have to feel too guilty! The K has been very reliable and has worked hard for many years...it deserves a bit of a rest.
The newbie is sitting on the kitchen counter, looking very sophisticated and elegant...have to learn how to drive it now! I feel a cake coming on...
Bye now,
See you soon,
Di
