Got some more things done this morning, cooked the banana bread, cleaned out under the sink and cooked a roast lamb Sunday lunch along with blackberry cobbler...the blackberries had been removed from the freezer a couple of days ago and although the cobbler mixture was a tad anaemic in colour, especially after I dusted it rather liberally with cinnamon sugar, it did taste rather nice...with cream of course.
We also had visitors today, Sarah, Karina and the pooches arrived, full of beans and stayed for lunch. Sarah had made me some lovely lemon curd, very timely as the small batch I made last week had long dissipated.
It was lovely to see them all. They live close to the Northern end of the mountain and their climate is cooler, windier and damper than ours, so they enjoyed seeing and feeling the sun. They are geographically placed in the line of morning fog, called a Bridgewater Jerry, which flows down the Derwent Valley towards Hobart on many winter mornings. The dense mist and fog can linger almost until lunch time on wind free days...it certainly limits the level of sun and warmth felt if you happen to be in the vicinity.
Bonny enjoyed the lamb bone once Chris could be parted from it and Sarah boosted our caffeine intake to more acceptable levels. It was lovely to see them and it was nice to have time for a chat.
We have also planted out poppies, snap dragons, linaria and violas over the past week. Now we just need a heap of lucerne chaff to mulch everything nice and deep to put some value into the rather sterile new soil as well as provide barrier to reduce water loss. Once that happens we should have a fairly productive and low maintenance garden.
Oh, I mentioned the hideous card, didn't I...well, loathe as I am to include mention of it it in this post, certainly no photograph, I don't want you all feeling dizzy out there, there is always something to learn when we undertake a task. This was a card I really struggled over although the main DI focal panel with the embossed butterflies started very promisingly. I hate the colours, the layout, the way it looks, everything really...but hey...I persisted in making it and who knows, I may think of someone to send it to eventually (Is there anyone I dislike THAT much)...meanwhile it will serve as a vivid reminder that I should trust my judgement, and if a thing looks too wrong to fix, then toss it. Life is too short to waste on ugly cards! ;)
Bye now,
Di
