Bye now,

,
It is Crow Day over at the EIM blog. This time I drew the crow with pencil, scribbling and erasing until I was fairly happy with the general shape, then I used a couple of fine liners to add detail in the feathers, beak, feet and eye. I coloured the bird with a fairly new Lyra Graphite Crayon that I haven't used very much. I had intended to use my pens and black ink but decided that the ink would cover all the finer detail I had tried to include with the feathers etc. so coloured lightly with the graphite instead. I used my ColourSoft pencils to shade the branch and yellowish background. He is adhered onto a mount board 1.5 inch square, as are all the others and is now safely housed in the frame with the past four weeks entries. We don't have crows per se in Tasmania, only Forest Ravens (Corvus Tasmanicus), so I used a Little Crow (Corvus bennetti) common over large parts of the drier areas of Australia as my model, using an illustration from my rather dated Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds, as my source... The broken eucalypt branch of fuchsia gum that I rescued from the dog park last weekend, sat on my bench in a jar of rosemary twigs until this morning...sadly it did not succeed in flowering after all and so has gone to the compost bin...however, the two gum nuts have produced a little pile of seed which I will attempt to germinate over the Winter. I hope they do grow, it would be nice to see more of these pretty natives about the place. They are endemic to a quite small area around Esperence in Western Australia so should be ok climate wise...and besides, if they do grow I will have this years Christmas pressies pretty well sorted, won't I? Better trot, things to do...I will be back this evening to link my little crow to the inchie blog once Europe catches up timewise, then you will be able to visit also to see the other lovely entries in this weeks inchiefest.
Bye now, Di

Love the picture frame with the inchies, it looks awesome. The crow looks so cool and good luck with the seeds. I have a black thumb so I know nothing about gardening and my daughter likes it that way lol

Thank you for the lovely comments...I am hopeful re the seeds, I have popped them into the refrigerator to assist with scarification...we have had such a long warm period that I couldn't rely on the frosts to do the job! Dixx

Thanks, yes the frame is looking good, they are not too brilliant individually but all together they seem to gain a synergistic enhancement...I'm all for that! The seeds have no smell, especially as they are now in a lottle baggie in the fridge, but the gum nuts are quite pungently eucalyptus-y, Dixx
