Those days the boys were far more likely to have a milk shake or iced chocolate, followed by a large slice of the most luscious cake on display, well, James and Chris, anyway.
Simon, who preferred savoury things, would usually opt for a salami sandwich...as long as it contained about half his body weight of salami, that is.
I have never really liked icy drinks, they tend to give me a "snow headache", although on a hot day a café frappé...strong black filtered coffee blended with an equal quantity of ice...is not to be sneezed at, just as long as there is no sugar, ice cream, or heaven forfend, whipped cream, added!
I reduced the sugar even more than usual so Tim could also indulge, but I increased the cinnamon and cloves a tad and the kitchen aromas were wonderful. The best bit is, now the lads are learning the need for portion size control rather than their previous policy of "if it is there, eat it", there is enough left for supper tonight, as well...unless the fridge gremlins come across it first, that is!
We needed to have a new oven as the previous one had some sort of major health decline early last week. After some initial trauma when the electrician turned the oven onto a high temperature, told me to leave it for at least an hour to burn off any unwanted residue and left, I discovered he had failed to remove the plastic packaging, cardboard and heavy duty tapes from around all the accessories, which he had left inside the oven...I won't go into details, I am still too incandescent with fury at his carelessness...suffice it to say that the interior of the oven, instead of being pristine, looks rather as if a very careless cook has not cleaned it for a year or so...and that despite a few hours of cleaning by both Chris and I...grrrr! Still, we did have it in place in time to cook the pizzas for Chris' birthday supper.
Well, that's it for now, I am having a pretty quiet time despite the oven excitement...hopefully things will be brighter next week.
Bye,
Di
