I was going to have a try at drawing this inchie but time has gotten away from me once again, so I am resorting to another photo...this one taken many years ago when visiting the Melbourne Zoo with the smalls. They have had quite a good breeding programme and lovely big enclosures for their small group of gorillas, I thought better than the Zoo in Sydney back in the day.
From memory we visited around the time that the first gorilla conceived through AI was born there, in the mid 1980's...we didn't see the youngster of course but his name was Mzuri and his mother is still living at the zoo.
I have several photographs of the Melbourne animals from that visit, and thought this one, of two gorillas, even though a little small to be very informative, was the best one to use. The large gorilla behind the tree was the adult silver back, I think his name was Motaba. He now lives at the Werribee Open Range Zoo, also in Victoria, in comfortable retirement
I finished and sent off the Dr. Who scarf to son number 1 for his birthday a couple of weeks ago, but Chris, who still lives at home, decided he wants one also. As there was still a deal of yarn left from the first, I got busy and have just finished his...now hubby Tim has decided he doesn't want to be left out of the fun and I am supposed to stretch the few remaining strands to complete a third...I still have to add the fringe to the second scarf and know I will run out long before the third scarf is knitted and I am terribly afraid that they will simply purchase more balls of yarn next time they go out...one has to be so careful of what one starts in this world! I see this project stretching on into infinity like a hall of mirrors nightmare.
Bye now,
Di
