There was so much interesting information that most of the time I felt like a child let loose in a sweet shop, every time I read up about an object, researched an ancestor or put one of my old family photographs under the microscope of examination and discovery I was sent off in so many different directions I really was in a quandary most of the unit. How to limit my field of interest, keep to the rubric and module objectives became a daily fight...I aim to get into some other units as soon as I can, but as we will be out of the State visiting New South Wales - the grandsters, Simon and Melinda in Berkeley, then down to James and Helen in Batemans Bay, for the next fortnight, I could not enroll in the next unit as I would have missed the first two or three weeks.
I was a tad naive when working on my first assignment for this unit, an annotated map (see HAA006 Place, Image, Object tab above).
The first time I added all the information - HTML codes of images and maps, linked pdf's containing information about four of the images, it worked beautifully. The map looked wonderful and the links all worked a charm and I was chuffed to the hilt I don't mind saying...but we all know where pride leads us don't we? Yep, flat on our faces! I think I was in a stage of unconscious incompetence...just a couple of weeks later I am much more wide awake as regards html/css, anyway at Least now I know how little I know...but I am undefeated...I am on the track and won't rest until those little white lines of disaster are erased from my interactive object. I am doing a lot of searching and reading, seems I am not along in being puzzled, but I am yet to find a fix/work around for the issue...watch this space!
I have finally finished off the two journals, I am always surprised about how long these take to finish off!
This first one for Nicholas who will be ten later this year...the last one is for Wyatt who will be seven at the end of the year...the journals are just a little something extra to take up for them. Something hand made and different to their usual very commercial possessions. The boys may well find them totally irrelevant: that is of no account with me. I have had many happy hours making these, thinking about the boys and what they might like while I did so, so I have already gained so much from the process....
I also need to sort out a few bit and bobs to take with me craft-wise...I hate just sitting...so some books, sock wool, little embroidery basics and plenty of audiobooks on my ipod...I should be ready for anything!
Bye now, See you when I get back!
