It has a very varied climate, from warm tropical along the Indian ocean, cooler Savannah grasslands around Nairobi and Mount Kenya which has a permanent snow cover despite the latitude, temperate areas suitable for growing coffee and tea crops and finally dry arid arid areas...
I was pleasantly surprised to find that a flower I photographed recently at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical gardens here in Hobart was listed for the region...Blood Lily...BUT...is it Haemanthus coccineus or Scadoxus puniceus? I had posted this image previously on my Instagram feed, calling it Haemanthus coccineus, but now I do a bit more research I really don't know! Both are called Blood lily, Paintbrush plant et al and both are listed for the region...next time I am at The Gardens I will ask one of their experts...I hate not working through these sorts of puzzles. In the meanwhile, I am leaning towards Scadoxus, because of the similarities with older floral images I have found...whichever it is, it is my inchie for today...
I should have saved this entry for another South American country, as it is home to the Acca sellowiana plant...see I am beginning to think in inchies now.
I have saved some of the small seeds from a riper fruit, apparently they grow easily from seed...so, watch this space!
bye,
Di
