Lithuania has a very long history indeed, with the first settlers in the territory arriving about ten thousand years BC.
The Republic of Lithuania has the geographical distinction of being located in the centre of Europe located at 54°54′N 25°19′E, 26 kilometres north of Lithuania's capital city of Vilnius. This was determined in 1989 by Jean-George Affholder, a scientist at the Institut Géographique National. He worked this out by calculating the centre of gravity of the geometrical figure of Europe. What a clever clogs!
The United Nations Human Development Index lists Lithuania as a "very high human development" country.
Politically, Lithuania has had a fairly difficult and hard fought route to independence, which was finally acquired in 1993. This followed a referendum which resulted in the country's first directly elected president, Algirdas Brazauskas, and later that year the final departure of foreign troops from the territory.
Having such a long and very interesting history, Lithuania has many wonderful, historical buildings and landmarks...this is another country I would love to visit.
Both plants have pretty yellow flowers. I decided to use the putative endemic plant, as rue is common across many countries...
My daughter and Karina had some excitement on Friday when their neighbours decided to pull down the fence between their two properties, which left Hollie confined to indoors. Tim whizzed up to town to collect her to stay overnight until the breach had been repaired. However, the workmen have not returned and so the overnight dogsit has been extended until work is completed. She is pretty easy to have around, generally speaking, although she seems to have a marked, and horrid, propensity for sitting under my desk and breaking wind with a frequency and force far exceeding her diminutive build...apart from that all is quite well. In fact, she is a great companion when crafting, knitting or crocheting, generally speaking, these are very solitary activities for me.
I have also started knitting a pair of house socks, in expectation of cooler weather to come.
Well, that's about it for Lithuania, and for me for the last few days...
Don't forget to check out the other inchies,
By now,
