Homer and Hesiod could not agree about Aphrodite's parentage, but all agreed she was extremely beautiful...you can read all about it here...
There are many lovely examples of artists interpretation of her beauty...I chose to use a partial image of a Parian marble statue of Aphrodite, from Baiai in southern Italy, a copy of a Greek original of the 4th century (National Archaeological Museum, Athens).
This image is of the Venus of Willendorf
In the past few days I have made a few more just to try and get the process fine tuned, and as they weren't too bad, have made them into cards.
I have been trying different sizes and papers for the bases, plus trying out several ideas for the construction and finishing. I have been filling in my time, if nothing else.
I thought I might add these few to my papery shelf at the Three Peaks Gallery...however, packaging them suitably has become quite the issue...
My items in the gallery, if left open and available for handling by customers, being made of paper and card, are subject to considerable wear and tear...I have several times needed to remove torn or damaged items. However, who is going to buy something they cannot see fully?
To try and get around this issue, I decided, as with my box cards, I will have a "play" version on display, so folk can pick it up and see what is included and how it works...all the rest will be packaged securely.
I first make a lidded box to contain the card safely, than add a decorated tag with an attached envelope sized to hold both a small included greeting card, and a gift card, should the sender wish to add one...I then print out a page of images and description to be added to the back of the bag, so the buyer can see what is included...it is the best I can come up with at the moment, maybe the point is that these are simply not a "go-er" for this outlet...mmmm, we will see.
One thing, I have just about reached the end point of my enthusiasm for these items...once I get a process "right", I tend to want to move on to something else, and these are surprisingly time consuming to make...
Bye for now,
Di
