It seems, if I am reading the online posts correctly, and I want you to be fully informed, it is a day for you to gather a group of friends, clad only in their best (hopefully) knickers, in a very public spot and take a group selfie for the purpose of amazing yourselves with your collective daring...
But somehow this doesn't appeal to me, not at all, not on any level...besides, it is far too cold this morning.
So, how am I to represent this prompt in a photograph? This gave me furiously to think. I suppose I could take a photograph of my beautifully arranged drawer of lovely undies, but that would take hours of folding, and also be far too expensive as I would need to go shopping, my wardrobe being far too prosaic these days to impress anyone.
I could snap some gaily coloured garments flapping winsomely on a clothes line except that the day is far too overcast and still for that to be effective, and besides, some of the previous comments apply here also...I really don't want to have to go shopping...so, what to do?
I had a thought about another whole group of persons connected with underwear from whom I can draw immediate, if dated, inspiration...the external underwear superheros!
I have the perfect shot of son number two dressed proudly in a superman costume taken way back in the late seventies, early eighties...that will do very well for the inchie today. I do so hope he doesn't mind...(Simon, just remember, there is no such thing as bad publicity!)
Just a note of clarification here, in case you think I am casting too wide a net in my search for a topic, I should mention Julius Schwartz who edited the comic "Superman". He believed the external underpants idea for the costumes of superheros came directly from the attire of actors and circus performers such as aerial artists, strongmen and wrestlers, back in the day, who had to manage their costumes before Lycra and other modern form fitting fabrics became available...seems plausible to me.
My sister shares her birthday with the world's horses, on the first of August, so I called in to see her and share some of the photographs I took at the book launch.
Sarah and Karina visited with Hollie on Saturday morning, but I missed most of their visit as I had a roster at the Gallery to fill. Sarah bought me a bunch of Daphne odora which I placed in my bedroom, so I could hog the deliciousness... then a friend called me yesterday with an offer of some red canna and flowering ginger rhizomes she had been thinning out of her border, so after a trip to her home, a cuppa and a lovely dog (Mungo Watson) and cat (Lucien & Jack), fix, these have been added to the garden and will help build some variety of foliage to our beds..She also gave me a wonderful bunch of Daphne, having an amazingly prolific bush, to add to Sarah's...this morning the whole house was scented gently with the perfume of this lovely plant. As I had to leave my own plant in our previous garden, I am hoping to be able to strike a few cuttings from Ann's gift...as one can never have too much Daphne, and once you have it growing well, it does fit in well with our new garden mantra requirement of "minimal care".
Bye,
Di
