For my inchie this week I chose the diminutive Saxifraga wahlenbergii, reportedly an endangered member of this genus. The saxifrages are an appealing group of small hardy plants, great in cooler climates and for using in rockeries. I read that in Powsin, 15 kilometres from the centre of Warsaw, the Polish Academy of Sciences Botanical Garden contains a area of pasture ground where biologists have succeeded in gathering the rarest species of naturally-occurring flora in Poland. In order to save wild plants from extinction, Polish scientists also store them in a cryogenic gene bank. Visitors to the garden are able to walk amongst these rarely seen plants which are native to Poland and enjoy what they would rarely be able to experience in the wild.
The mat layer for this inchie is a portion of the oldest known printed text in the Polish language, the Statuta Synodalia Episcoporum Wratislaviensis, printed in 1475 in Wroclaw by Kasper Elyan.
The Saxifrage image was taken by Jerzy Opiola, Thanks Jerzy...also, I note that the list of topics for next year is up on the EIM site...if anyone feels like a small weekly challenge...do go and check it out!
I have been quite busy organising a couple of journals that were ordered at the last minute and needed for Christmas...I can spend weeks organising a journal...endless fiddling with the content and embellishments, but not with these two, due to the lack of time available and the fact that my crafting equipment was all packed away only a weeks or so ago!
The first, for a young lass who loves everything beachy and surf related, I have finished and sent off. I would have liked some more time working on it, but one must be realistic.
I have purchased a couple of light box panels for my crafting bench, and have already tested these and my lovely new camera arm, (thanks Chris!), finally making another video for YT about this new journal. It is nice to be getting back in the loop with my crafting.
I include the video here just to prove to myself that I still remember how to do so...it has been such an age...
The girls have agreed that lunch on the 25th. will be a casual relaxed affair this year. We are just planning the salads and accompaniments that we would all individually like to see on the table and luckily our tastes coincide beautifully. My head is now busy organising this so the work closer to the day is minimized and we can all enjoy a happily relaxed, if quiet, celebration with NO FUSS!
Today is a momentous day for grandson number two, Wyatt, who turns nine!
Better trot, busy journal-construction day ahead, talk soon,
Di
