Australians take pause for at least just a minute, at eleven o'clock on the eleventh of November to remember all those who have been impacted by war or armed conflict...many others attend memorial services to remember comrades, family members and others all over the world who have been, or continue to be, impacted.
This was an easy inchie for me to decide on. A few years ago while visiting the Australian War Memorial at Canberra I picked up a packet of Flander's poppy seeds. Once broadcast over a couple of garden areas these continued to seed and grow freely season after season and I have several images in my photo files.
Our recent spell of Winter is now finally receding, with icicles absent from the slightly warmer wind...blue skies and sunshine are becoming the daily norm once again. In fact, the temperature has shot up to 27 degrees C. this afternoon...we should be used to such precipitate contrasts hereabouts, but really we never seem to manage it.
Tim and Chris did some planting and maintenance in the garden over the weekend, staking Sarah's "dead" pelagonium to help support all the vigorous but rather brittle new growth and planting out the native iris seedlings along the side fence. I just supervised closely from the balcony...a great vantage point that means I don't have to attempt the difficult climb down the stairs to ground level.
Tim has been waging war on the carpet of flat weeds that comprise our "lawn" area...he seems to be winning...maybe some days, anyway. The recent rains and warm weather has provided evidence to the contrary, but perseverance is everything! The magpies like his efforts as worms come to the disturbed soil surface and are quickly snapped up for lunch.
Nothing much else to report this week....
Bye for now,
Di
