This photograph was taken while she was visiting Lake Catherine State Park in Arkansas.
She was trying to attract a woodpecker, another bird we don't have here in Australia, by crumbling up some biscuit crumbs onto a picnic table so she could get a fairly close photograph.
While the bird was enjoying her little offering and allowing her to take some pics, little Squirrel Nutkin came barrelling across the grass, leapt up onto the table scattering the bird to the skies and claiming the remaining crumbs for itself. It was quite happy to pose for her, while the food lasted anyway...
Sarah also has another squirrel story about a cheeky little chap who absconded with an unattended bag of potato crisps, tore open the bag and proceeded to gobble up every one...it seems they are a bit like our Australian possums...not brilliant sharers of food and not particularly concerned with ownership issues...more of a "first come best fed" opportunist principle of survival...
