Sometimes in the past we have included a small thank you in a Christmas note to our postie, along with other service delivery folk, but that does not occur so much these days...I believe it was an instigation of the smalls, whirled away in an excited tide of generosity as Christmas loomed large in their minds...I wonder if they still do it, now it is from their own grown-up wallets? I didn't even bother researching this commemorative day much, as it's purpose is obvious.
Moving on, I was puzzled, however obvious the purpose of the day, in how to represent this weeks inchie. I simply don't have any suitable or even vaguely relevant photos in the archive at all. Maybe, I thought, I could leave a thank you card on our letter box and hover about ready to take a photo of a smiling, helmeted chap on a motor cycle waving in appreciation...however, after waiting hours listening and watching for the moment of opportunity, the helmeted chap in question simply puttoomed past without a glance at either the card on the letterbox or myself, sigh.
On to Plan B...Chris suggested a Postman Pat theme, (a thought from his childhood, obviously ;), but I thought that maybe all we need to do to thank them for their work is to ensure that they have some, in this increasingly electronic, paperless world. So I decided, sending more snail mail would be the way to do this in the short term, anyway, or at least a way in which I am able to actively participate. I always love to receive personal mail, and have always liked to send mail to others. Just in the past six months though, that has changed, as I have had less time to make cards or write letters but now I am back on track and intend to knuckle down and post more. I know the grandsters love getting post...that will be a good place to start, and I will get the birthday list out again...it has been very neglected for everyone in it, lately.
So, I made a tiny Valentines card and envie that measures an inch, and attached it to the prepared mats.
That is my contribution to EIM for this week. If a Valentines Day card is going to get somewhere by the 14th., it does need to be posted soon...note... my very first bit of mail advocacy! BTW...making a tiny envelope simply isn't as straightforward as you might think...
It isn't a photo, as I intended to use this year, but hey! flexibility in outlook is good, says I...
Better trot, garden supervision is on the agenda for today...a few cuttings still to plant and general weeding of Tim's new garden beds...I note that one of my salvaged plants, a lovely deep magenta penstemon, is flowering below the balcony and the herbs and iris plants are all doing well, thanks to Tim's care. I rarely venture down the stairs to the garden area so improvement in the area is all down to him. I will have to go and help him today, with the weeding, as he is rarely able to identify what needs to stay and what should go!
Bye now,
Di
