I had gone prepared with woollies, scarf and gloves and Tim had his long Dr Who scarf and beanie so we survived without any damage. Far fewer folk than usual turned out though, but this had the advantage of leaving more space at the braziers and a far chattier friendly event...I had a good time people watching, always a joy...especially the elderly pair of swingers who danced energetically throughout the session, never missing a beat. I do so envy them their very functional knees and their joie de livre!
The musicians did a wonderful job, avoiding electrocution and (hopefully) frostbite as well. I am sure I could hear chattering teeth at quiet moments...When we left the venue I checked my phone and it was indicating the ambient temperature was -1.6 degrees.
I have yet to look at the mp4 files to see if anything can be patched together...it is often a really good thing to have a lot of editing to do as I can cut the length down to reasonable size and cut a lot of extraneous chat...always a good thing!
I have also been finishing off some of the cards I started a while back...getting them sorted and into small packs of six or eight cards and envelopes ready to make some boxes to pop them into...these make lovely little gifts but I have had them sitting about for too long and need to finish the task.
I also started some spinning...I cannot spin for long at a time due to the back, shoulder and knee issues that are my constant companions...but I have found that if I have my recliner at a certain angle I can manage, using my right leg...to spin for about half an hour at a time. I have so enjoyed getting into it again. I have been playing with some coloured carded fleece given to me by by a friend not so long ago. I always took pride in the fine quality of the yarn I used to spin back in the day when I had knees, so while I have been working to get my little wheel back under my control (it has been neglected for a long time and has been a tad recalcitrant!), I have been working to get a bulkier more textured yarn to knit myself a beanie, It is interesting as I have found it quite hard to maintain the outcome when making chunky yarn, I keep trying to smooth it out and make it uniform and smooth.
I have now spun enough for my beanie and will enjoy getting back to getting some finer, smoother yarn balled up...in coming weeks. I still have a good supply of fleece of various sorts, so watch this space...
I wanted a little smooth rock to sit it on, so Chris did a little search through some gravel we have in our garden and found a small grey piece for me.
I coated it with some metallic black nail polish and adhered the starfish onto it, added a few family members to the inch base and that was that.
I had also tried during the week to bead a tiny felted starfish but didn't feel it passed muster...fine sewing late at night with tired eyes and poor lighting...really, I should know better!
I photographed them together...didn't want to play favourites. Besides, I have a small box of alternate inchies I have made during the year that didn't quite fit the bill size-wise etc., so intend to put these together in a smaller frame at the end of the year so they will get their moment of fame as well as the "approved" inchies, in the fullness of time.
Sometimes a simple thoughtful gesture really can touch ones heart with happiness...and it has been the longest time since I experienced that feeling...but yesterday the arrival of a tiny posy of violets was all it took.
Tim had stopped by a friend's house to drop something off to her and this is what she gave him to bring home for me!
Better trot, I have some videos waiting for an Edward Scissorhand moment...
Bye now,
Di
