The reason we have been discussing such abstract issues is that Anne has decided to have a party. Her sister and nephews will be travelling over from Melbourne for the event and my brother, in his inimitable style, has decided that the three them will perform a "Plover" dance.
Now chicken dances used to be the go with him and his girls whenever a celebration was in progress (or even sometimes when there was nothing really happening...a sort of trigger for fun and hilarity so to speak...I never really got into that sort of thing myself, being a much more sober and serious personality...but they always seemed to get a lot of joy out of this sort of public display...maybe I should stop there...this is family stuff after all and sometimes not well understood by others, especially those of a more serious mein...
Back to the plovers...I am not sure when the chicken transmogrified into plovers for these three. I have a little theory that the plovers' rather jerky movements, and long skinny legs have something to do with it...the chickens may have simply become a little prosaic over the years and plovers do lend themselves to a bit of fun, maybe...plus, they are pretty feisty birds.
Enough...my brother, in his pursuit of the unattainable, wanted plover suits for the three of them...None of the rather limited costume hire places here in Hobart could assist with his requirements, so eventually he came to me..I always seem get his clothing alterations, patching and mending, make cushions for his boat sort of requests, so I guess it was a natural thing for him to ask me to provide the necessary items. A very quick thought indeed made me tell him to buy each of them 70 denier dark brown leggings and a white skivvy, and I would see what I could do in regard to wings. I was certainly not going to get cajoled into a complete costume making event for a party piece that may never happen, and even if it does, will probably not last longer than a minute or three. That was my thoughts, anyway...I was finishing a couple of uni modules at the time as well as preparing to travel to the mainland for a couple of weeks and knew time would be a factor. as well. (Not just being mean, me!)
anyway, after I had given it some thought, I got stuck in and started on the project...it has been taking over my craft room ever since...I will be very glad to see the back of these jolly wings, that is for sure.
All being well I will be able to post a video of the event, should it occur...as for me, I am still wondering how they will manage to get their knees to bend backward during the dance!
On another note, we have been having such an amazingly warm and settled period just now...Spring here is usually wildly windy and very cold, often the coldest part of the year. This year however, we have been enjoying 18 to 20 degree days, sunny blue and delicious...great for getting gardening underway. Today was so warm I even bathed the Pig...he is getting so frail that he really can't manage to keep his fur in his usual lustrous condition, so a bath helps him and also gets rid of a lot of unwanted fur from his coat. I must go and check that he is drying off ok before things start to cool down.
Well, better trot...Pig to check on, make sure his coat is dry, don't want to risk him catching a chill.
