My brother has also become a great grandfather for the first time a week ago and I will make him a card to commemorate the great occasion, another girl, Ivy Louise, so some more pretty items lay in store for development! My Brother Scanncut needs a new blade, so I think I will wait until I manage to track one down before I get on with that project...I saw a cunning little baby cot shaped box card that I would love to try...
I am very lazy about having to fussy cut masks when stamping layers for cards, or fussy cutting in general, really.
I am not having a lot of success with it as I have found that when I remove the layer of masking solution at completion, it always manages to lift a slight layer of the cardstock up with it, spoiling the image or at least making it scarred-looking and less than perfect, (and we all know what we think about less than perfect, don't we?).
Maybe I am removing it too soon, or trying to stamp the additional layers too soon, I am not sure. I will have to do some timed trials in case my impatience is proving the problem and I am not letting things dry as they need.
Also, I suppose it could be the paper, but I have always found Neenah card stock of good quality for most of my card making exercises...I may try it on some watercolour paper to see if this is any better...does anyone else have this problem?
Maybe it is the quality of the masking solution, but it was the best one the art store was able to provide...mmm will have to work on this. I have been hankering rather over the lovely stencil brushes used by Barbara Grey of Clarity Stamps UK. I found I had a small hoard of Estee Lauder makeup brushes tucked away and thought I would use one to try to create a stencil background for this wintery little card. The brushes give such a soft lovely effect to a background that is hard to produce through other means. It worked pretty well although the brush I used has left a slightly grainy effect, but you have to get up very close to notice. I think the brush needs to be better quality...hey ho, one day!
I made it so to send to a friend who inhabits warmer climes than we do here in Tasmania, just to let her know that we are finally starting to feel the chill after a rather wonderfully long and warmish prolonged Summer/Autumn period. I think she likes to know that she is in a warmer place! ;).
My daughters partner gave me a present this week of a fitbit one...it is a great incentive for me to be able to see if I am moving further each day than the one before, things tend to get a bit bogged down in a slough of despond when physical improvement is so slow...now I can see how far each walk I take is and it encourages me to do just a little more each time. Isn't technology wonderful? (and aren't caring friends wonderful too?).
Bye for now, thanks for visiting,
Di
